Cadet Team Racing Reunion

On 27th December over 40 Ex-Cadet sailors and parents converged on Frensham Pond Sailing Club, with sailors from 1993 for an afternoon of Team Racing. Almost as if time hadn't passed everyone slipped back into the Frensham life, with many generations of cadet sailors present.

The day consisted of 3-boat team racing with a total of three teams, where helm and crew combinations were arranged to reunite old teams. "With so many generations it was hard to work out if you were going to be crewing for your old helm from 1999 or helm for your crew from 2004" – Aaron Cooper

With the typical gusty, and shifty conditions we were all kept on our toes. Racing was exciting and there were many close finishes. After one flight and a total of 12 races, a winning team was announced and champagne awarded. Possibly the last team racing event to be held under the old racing rules.

After sailing we all descended on the local Chinese and a long overdue catch up. A great day all round, one we look forward to repeating next year, hopefully with even more people.

Many thanks to Frensham Pond Sailing Club, Charterhouse School for the use of their fireflies, Jane Anderson for arranging all the logistics and acting as jury boat, and Steven Anderson and Tim Hemsley in the Committee boat.

As an added bonus, the ex-Cadets raised £180 towards the replacement of Typsy.

John Beasley

It is with sadness that I report the passing of John Beasley on 18th December 2012.

John became an Out of Port member when he moved to the West Country with his wife Jill some years ago.  He was a fine Enterprise sailor and a Fleet Captain.

I am sure John will be missed by all those who knew him.
