RYA Laser 4.7 European and World Championship squad selection trial

Last weekend (9th & 10th April), with a consistent great performance, Zac won the RYA Laser 4.7 European and World Championship squad selection trial event at Datchet. Zac sailed extremely well in the very strong fleet of 32 sailors from the whole UK, including the Channel Islands. The reservoir provided the sailors with plenty of challenges over the weekend. They had some fairly serious and tricky wind shifts resulting in the constant adjustment of the race course, even during the races.

During the Easter holiday Zac travelled to Lake Garda (Italy) and took part in the International Laser Youth Easter Regatta. There was a strong fleet of 109 boats. Zac sailed very well and finished 8th U16. I attached a picture from the event.

Frensham Cadets in World Selector

Strong Frensham Fleet in Cadet  World Selector

FPSC members sailed in 19 of the 50 entries in the first Cadet World selector event of this year. The 6 races were held at Weymouth last week in some strong winds. Our sailors were in 5 of the top 10 GBR places overall, with Isobel and Emily Speirs heading our representatives in 3rd place.

Well done to all of our sailors and supporting parents. We are proud of you.

After the remaining two selector events, the top 10 GBR crews are selected as the GBR Team for the World Championship competition. So far so good!

Brewster & Tidey qualify for Rio

News Flash

Andrea Brewster & Saskia Tidey qualify for 2016 Olympics in 49erFX Class. We are thrilled that Andrea and Saskia have qualified to represent Ireland in the Rio Olympics.

Andrea learned to sail at Frensham, first crewing, then helming a Cadet and progressing to the Laser Radial National Youth Squad, before being encouraged by her coaches to embark on an Olympic campaign. In 2013 she switched to representing Ireland and her success in qualifying for 2016 is well deserved.

The link below gives the background to the qualification: http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/news/188508

Frensham Pond Sailing Club is very proud to have given Andrea her early sailing experience and we wish her every success in Rio.
